It has come to my view that dogs were shot in Columbia MO, by the police. Sure animals get put down for rabies, and other diases, but if someone would like to testify against me saying this: 'It wasnt the dogs fault.' Police just barge in attacking your people and its just an instinct to growl and bite. They made a bad quick decision. So if you could, take a moment out of your busy lives to think about what happened to these poor dogs. It's a cruel world out there. :(

Dear Sarah and Sam, and CC,
ReplyDeleteIt is sooooo much fun to play with a dog!! Take dogs outside lots! Run with them! You can play fetch with your dog too! If your dog doesn't know how to fetch (aka: won't bring it back to you) just bring out a treat like a lil bit of bread to lure him back. Now I'm not mch for the whole training thing. I personally think dogs should just have fun, but it is good to show them the basic manners of dog world. The first thing you teach them to go is sit. Everyday for about 5 mins. take your dog in a rom with no distractions. Bring a piece of bread or cracker for a treat. Then you tell him sternally, 'Sit.' while holding up the treat. He probably wont respond at first. That's when you take your free hand and push his bottom down while saying 'Sit.' Then you give him the treat. Remeber, dont show him lots of affection til your done. Repeat these steps about 5 more times. If he still doesnt get it, don't be frustrated, just try again tommorow. After your dog has sit, teach him to shake, lay down, stay, and my favorite... play dead! When you get your tricks down, go to a doggy park and show all the other puppies what your dog is made of!!!

Dear Curious,
ReplyDeleteDogs being afraid of thunderstorms is very commen. Here's some stuff you can do:
1.Make thunder and other loud noises fun. Play with your dog during the storm. Make a recording of loud noises. While doing something your dog enjoys - eating, playing fetch, etc, play the recording, softly at first, then increase the sound as your dog becomes used to the sounds. Don't increase the recording to quickly, make sure your dog is not scared during the game. Remember loud noise=fun.
2.Put your dog in a safe place during a storm. A bathroom, one that doesn't have windows, makes a safe place. While your dog is in the bathroom turn on the fan or play music to help drowned out the noise. Make sure there is nothing to be destroyed.
3.Many dogs will hide in a closet or under the bed, this works well as long as there is nothing harmful in the area or nothing the dog might destroy.
4.Play white noise - turn on the radio between stations or play the TV on an off station. White noise works well to mask unwanted sounds.
And remember, NEVER EVER pet your dog while he's afraid. It may be tempting, but dont! This action renforces the scared feeling, or makes it ok to be scarred!
I really don't know why dogs are afraid of thunderstorms! Hope your dog gets over his phobia!
