Eyeliner: Do's and Dont's

Eyeliner is a very particular thing. You have to be careful when and how much of it you put on. Eyeliner is supposed to make people think: 'Wow her eyes are gorgeous!' Not: 'How much eyeliner does she have on?? Doesn't she no it's day time?' It's supposed to compliment your eyes!
Picking Out Eyeliner:
If you decide it's time for eyeliner, you want to make sure you choose the right kind. There are 2 types of eyeliner, liquid and pencil. Liquid is more advanced, so I would choose the pencil until you're comfortable using it. There are 3 mane colors: black, blue, and grey. There are other colors too, but these are the best.
Green Eyes: Black is your color!
Blue Eyes: Grey and dark blue, black at night!
Brown Eyes: Black and blue are best but you can experiment with grey if you want!
Anything In Between: Feel free to experiment!
Applying Your Eyeliner:
Make sure you have a big mirror you can get close to and good lighting. Take your eyeliner in which ever hand you write with and lightly close your eye (one at a time or you won't be able to see!!! lol). Don't squint or it will look bumpy. It may seem weird, but use your pinky to steady. So set your pinky on your cheek and start in the middle of your eye where your pupil is. You remeber as a kid when you used to connect the dots... well you do lil dots very close to each other then go and connect them. Dont make your eyes look to dark. Now if it looks a little uneven, then either take a kleenz or that lil sponge tip at the end of the eyeliner pencil and smuge it a lil. If all fails, put some eyeshadow over it and it will all loot good ;). Under eyeliner is a different story. It may take some practice. You do the same steps to start out. Only this time start at the end farthest from your nose. You wanna go just a lil below where your bottom eyelashes start and do the dot method. Again if it doesnt work, either take it off or try to smudge it a lil. Never wear too much under eyeliner!!!!
When to Wear Eyeliner:
In the day time (like school or church or other events) I suggest wearing a lil top eyeliner, no under eyeliner. If your going to a dance, wear both and make it kinda thick, but you don't wanna look trampy, so be careful!
Conclusion:
Eyeliner just takes practice. Once you figure it out it will only take you a few seconds to put it on. Make sure that you don't wear too much because you want it to compliment your eyes, not over ride them. Smudge it if it gets uneven and if it just looks bad, take it off and start over. Don't stress yourself. If you have a friend or a parent that's really good at it, ask them for help or to even show you how its done. There's always more than 1 way to put on eyeliner! Stay beautiful! Be yourself!

  1. My mom always says beauty is more than skin deep. So far she won't let me wear eyeliner. All of my friends already do. How do i approach her with this fact. Ps, i appreciate all your helpful tips on how to use it. Now i just need permission. Any ideas?

    Thanx in advance. Plain Jane

  2. Dear Plain Jane,
Beauty is only skin deep, unfortunatly, guys don't exactly look for nice girls. People first look at your looks then your personality. If you want to wear eyeliner, you should be free to! The perfect amount of eyeliner makes your eyes look big and beautiful. Your mom probably doesn't want you to grow up to fast or she's trying to teach you lesson about beauty. If you fully understand that in the end beauty is about your personality and what's on the inside. You can be the prettiest person a in the world and yet be butt ugly. I don't think it would hurt for you to be able to wear eyeliner as long as you always know what true beauty is. Approach your mom with a calm attitude. Don't come at it like "All my friends wear it so why can't I?" rather, "Mom, I really think a touch of eyeliner will bring out my eyes. I know that beauty is on the inside but I still wont to compliment my features such as my eyes." If she says no, don't fight it, show her you're grown up and just be ok with it. You can always ask again later. Remeber, you have to prove to your mom that your grown up enough to wear eyeliner! Never go behind her back wearing it. It just sometimes takes time! Good luck ;)

  6. hi chewie,
i like to use liquid eyeliner more now that ive used pencil for a while. a lot of my friends style it to theres a wing out past the eye towards the temples. i was wondering if you have tips on doing that because i dont want to pull at my eyes because that can cause wrinkles i heard.
    thanks!

  7. Dear Just Wondering,
Unless you are actually pulling the skin around your eyes and making it go somewhere is not ment to go, you should be fin wrinkle wise. But if you want to do the wing thing with eyeliner, you have to do it right.
    A) Please do not make it longer than the prong on a fork. That just looks like your about to go on stage. Make it about .5 - 1in.
    B) this look is really good for night time. If you are going to wear it in the day, make it small and not very notiable.
    C) If you don't like the way it looks on you, dont follow what your friends do! Be your own person!
    Good Luck

  8. I agree...wings are great for going out. They really get the guys attention. I'm not sure about the wrinkle worry. I think this is just something else to worry about that doesn't make much sense. Chewie, what eye liner colors are your favs, particularly with blondish hair?

  9. Dear BB,
You don't really choose eyeliner by what color hair you have, rather your eye color. But in general, for blonde hair, I like blue and black. Those are my 2 fav eyeliners!
